According to three sources familiar with the matter, the Trump administration has greenlit an estimated $2.8 billion package encompassing 40,000 one-ton (2,000 lb) bombs destined for Israel. The proposed package comprises 20,000 general-purpose MK-84 unguided bomb bodies and 20,000 BLU-117 penetrating bomb bodies, plus optional I-2000 penetrator warheads and guidance kits. Shipments of this munitions category had previously been placed on hold in 2024 by the Biden administration due to civilian casualty concerns in dense urban zones, before the hold was lifted.
