Admiralty investigations require organizing chronological maritime records while preventing accidental disclosure of crew identities and sensitive identifiers. When privacy filters or confidential flags are triggered, the workbench evaluates regular expressions locally, replacing private patterns with standardized redaction tokens. Toggling Mask All or individual record checkboxes instantly updates the interactive chronology, and compiles a sanitized consultation brief ready for export.
How does client-side pattern redaction sanitize maritime case chronologies before legal consultation brief export?
This workbench operates entirely inside the browser to sort incident records chronologically by date and time while applying regular-expression pattern masks to sensitive personal identifiers. By default, three sample entries illustrate vessel mechanical telemetry, confidential witness notes, and symposium topics. When individual records are flagged or universal redaction is toggled, regex rules substitute Social Security numbers, phone strings, or designated crew names with bracketed redaction placeholders before assembling the plain-text consultation brief.
The in-browser engine relies on simple regular expressions matching standard digit patterns (such as standard SSN and telephone layouts) and explicit name substrings like 'John Doe'. It does not perform optical character recognition, semantic entity recognition, or comprehensive redaction of unlisted personal identifying details. The tool is an informational layout aid and does not substitute for formal court filing compliance under Federal Rule of Civil Procedure 5.2.
Clicking the 'Mask All' button toggles universal redaction across every incident record. In the chronology and brief preview, unmasked entries such as Entry 1 update their privacy status to 'REDACTED / CONFIDENTIAL', and the toggle button label changes to 'Unmask All'. Clicking the button again returns the case to its selective redaction state.
The redaction function inspects entry summaries using standard regular expressions. For Social Security numbers, it checks for nine-digit formats matching '\b\d{3}-\d{2}-\d{4}\b' or explicit 'SSN:' prefixes, substituting them with '[SSN: REDACTED]' or '[SSN: CONFIDENTIAL]'. Telephone strings are matched via flexible area code and separator expressions and replaced with '[PHONE REDACTED]'.
Federal court practice under Federal Rule of Civil Procedure 5.2 requires filing parties to protect personal privacy by including only the last four digits of a Social Security number or taxpayer-identification number, the year of birth, and minor initials, placing the burden of redaction on counsel and the filer. The chronology pane orders records by concatenating their date and time strings and performing a standard alphabetical sort ('localeCompare'). When the brief preview updates, it extracts all current records into an organized plain-text outline showing timestamps, categories, sanitized descriptions, and the completion state of the admiralty checklist.
Federal Rule of Civil Procedure 5.2 rules requiring filers to redact sensitive identifiers such as full Social Security numbers from court filings.
