The build barrier really collapsed
Agentic coding tools can scaffold auth, billing, queues, and an API integration from prompts. What took a contract dev team $30–80k in 2022 is now a motivated week of prompting plus ~$100 of tokens. The story's build claim is credible.
Niche beats general
You can't out-Sora OpenAI. But "text-to-video for real-estate listings" or "for Etsy product loops" wins on workflow: presets, brand kits, aspect-ratio packs, bulk CSV runs. The wrapper's moat is the niche's workflow, never the model.
Margins are rented
Your COGS is a price OpenAI/Google set and can change quarterly. A price cut helps you; a rate limit, ToS change, or first-party feature ("Sora for listings") can erase the business overnight. Multi-model routing is survival, not optimization.
$1M/yr is a distribution problem
At $1.20/video and ~55% gross margin, $1M revenue needs ~70k videos/month — thousands of active customers. The 24-hour build is 5% of the work; the other 95% is SEO, integrations, and churn-fighting. That part still takes years, code or no code.
Worked example: the path the math allows
Charge $29/mo for 30 videos (effective $0.97 each), pay ~$0.45 in API costs per video → ~$13.50 COGS, ~$15.50 gross profit per subscriber (53% margin). To reach $1M ARR you need ~2,900 subscribers. At a realistic 3% visitor→paid conversion, that's ~97,000 targeted visitors converting over the product's life — say 18–24 months of content, listings-site partnerships, and template virality. Doable for a solo founder in a tight niche; nothing about it happens in 24 hours except the prototype.
