The Magic Number represents the combined total of wins by the division leader and losses by the trailing team needed to mathematically clinch 1st place.

MN = (Total Games + 1) - Leader Wins - 2nd Place Losses

MLB Tiebreaker Rules (No Game 163)

Under current Major League Baseball rules, ties for division titles and postseason seeds are broken mathematically rather than via a 163rd game.
