ALPR Edge Filter & Retention Architecture Simulator

Community Engineering Investigation: Responding to the Quora debate "Could you program Flock cameras to only save images of criminals?" This tool simulates camera firmware edge pipelines, comparing default commercial dragnet storage (keeping all 100% of motorists) against local zero-retention hotlist filters, ring buffers, and cryptographic private set intersections.
Active Camera Firmware Pipeline Paradigm
Real-Time Edge Computer Vision Pipeline
Mode: Edge Hotlist Filter
SENSOR: SONY-IMX385 // 1080p60 IR
PROCESSING: 24 FPS // RAM: 18.2 MB
[OCR PIPELINE] Scanning vehicle stream... Filter: Discard Non-Hotlist
Batch completed: 24 vehicles processed.

Engineering Verdict: Programming cameras to discard non-hits eliminates mass surveillance dragnet databases and saves 91.7% cellular bandwidth, but prevents solving crimes if the plate wasn't already entered on a hotlist before passing the camera.
Edge Hotlist Capture Criteria
Active Rules
NCIC Stolen Vehicles Federal/State stolen auto database matches
Amber & Silver Alerts Immediate life-safety abduction broadcast hits
Violent Felony Warrants Active judicial warrants for armed felony suspects
Unpaid Parking / Registration Infractions Civil expired tags & municipal parking debts
Edge Hardware & Network Profile
Latency Simulation
Cellular Uplink Latency: 120 ms (LTE Band 14 FirstNet)
5G Ultra (40ms) 4G LTE (120ms) Satellite/Rural (800ms)
Hotlist DB Local Edge Memory: 12,400 records (2.4 MB RAM)

The camera uses a lightweight Bloom filter + local SQLite/RocksDB cache synchronizing differential hotlist deltas over MQTT every 300 seconds. No cloud query is required to evaluate a passing vehicle plate.
