The Art & Acoustics of Lawrence Tanter

For 43 seasons from 1982 through 2025, Lawrence Tanter was the revered voice of the Lakers at The Great Western Forum and Staples Center / Crypto.com Arena. Rejecting theatrical screaming or gimmicks, Tanter established a smooth, low-register cadence that allowed the arena's cavernous physical concrete reflections to provide natural gravitas. His trademark call — "two minutes, twoooo minutes" — was delivered with unmatched musical precision.

Acoustic Simulation Mechanics

This studio runs an in-browser Web Audio synthesis and DSP processing pipeline. Speech synthesis or synthesized tones are routed through an arena convolution reverb model, a calibrated multi-tap delay reflecting distant upper-bowl seating balconies, and a bandpass filter mimicking high-dispersion stadium horn clusters. Synthesizer oscillators also generate vintage stadium Hammond organ riffs and game buzzers.
