Best depends on
what happens next.
A useful kickoff produces both a shared understanding and a durable record. A whiteboard, brief database and task manager solve different parts of that job. These four options have documented features relevant to creative teams; the fit judgments below are our editorial reasoning.
F
FigJam
For design-led visual discovery
FigJam provides real-time brainstorming, diagrams and workshop templates, including a project kickoff template. It is a natural starting point when the design team already works in Figma.
Editorial tradeoff: keep exploration on the board, but make a separate decision and owner record so a useful idea does not disappear in a cluster of stickies. This is a workflow recommendation, not a claim that FigJam cannot track work.

M
Miro
For facilitated cross-functional workshops
Miro documents workshop templates, voting and timer features. Its help center lists voting, timer and visitor editing under specific paid or education plans; check the exact plan before inviting a client workshop.
Editorial tradeoff: a broad board is helpful for mixed teams, but set a clear path through the exercises and decide who maintains the output afterward. More canvas is not automatically more alignment.

N
Notion
For a brief that stays connected to the work
Notion’s documented Projects & Tasks templates connect projects to tasks, people, status and due dates. Pages can carry notes and documents alongside those records.
Editorial tradeoff: choose it when the written brief and ongoing project record matter most. For an open visual workshop, you may prefer a separate whiteboard rather than asking one document to do every job.

A
Asana
For assigning and following up on actions
Asana’s meeting-agenda templates organize discussion points and action items, including project kickoff agendas. Its workflow suits teams that want the meeting’s next steps to sit in their existing task system.
Editorial tradeoff: start with a visual board when exploring direction is the main work, then carry the agreed actions into your task record. A task list alone does not explain the creative rationale.

Pricing and accessAll four vendors offer free entry options and paid plans. We link the official pricing pages instead of inventing a uniform per-user price: seats, billing terms, guest access and feature availability differ. Before purchasing, confirm the participants’ required permissions and the exact workshop features on the vendor’s current plan. Source pages were reviewed October 5, 2026; no paid vendor accounts were tested for this guide.
We need to explore direction together.
Start in FigJam or Miro. Put reference material beside the questions, timebox each exercise, and finish by recording the decisions in a brief. Choose based on the team’s existing workspace and the workshop controls you require.
We need a stable brief after the meeting.
Use a written project record such as Notion. Separate confirmed decisions from open questions, assign each question an owner, and keep the meeting output linked to tasks.
We already know the direction but need accountability.
Use an agenda and action record in Asana or your existing task manager. Clarify who can approve each milestone and who is responsible for delivering it.
