Campaign Gazetteer: Beyond the Valley

Fan-authored Campaign Lore

The Bamboo Grove Verge: Opening near the border where Towashi's neon-lit towers give way to the primordial Jukai Forest on Kamigawa, this Omenpath connects into the northeastern border wilds of Bloomburrow.

Unlike human tech-refugees, the Order of Jukai wanderers arrive seeking peace from cybernetic upheaval. As they step through, the planar aura transfigures them into Tanuki (classified mechanically as Dogs), accompanied by tiny floating kami that resemble luminescent moss-spores.

While the Valley's central hamlets (mice, bats, otters, lizards) view these raccoon-dog pilgrims with cautious curiosity, the regional Calamity roamer—a colossal moss-shelled tortoise—has begun circling their groves, stirred by foreign natural magic.

Build a fan route without turning it into canon

Which details are published setting facts, and which are your campaign’s inventions?

Choose a proposed crossing, adjust migration pressure and wards, then edit the custom card and export a campaign record. The official setting supplies a starting point; these four routes, settlements, traveler assignments, card text and numerical scores are authored fan scenarios. The diagram is schematic, not an official map or a measured distance network.

Stability percentages are authored scores, not probabilities of successful travel. “Complete” animalization is a preset description, not a simulated transformation or a verified rule assigning forms. Calamity tension and settlement cycles have no defined real-world units or official game meaning. Sources below support setting and rules context, not these specific proposals.

Try a worked example

After clicking the Jukai preset or Reset, pressure 55 and Kami wards give tension round(28 + 55 × 0.3 − 8) = 37, settlement round(55 × 0.7 + 84 × 0.15) = +51 per invented cycle, and stability 84. A fresh page without saved state initially shows preset values 28/+42/84 because it renders before recalculating. Moving pressure or selecting a preset invokes the formula.

Use official lore as a boundary, then invent deliberately

Wizards’ Planeswalker’s Guide describes Valley as a small region of the larger plane of Bloomburrow, and Calamity Beasts as immense creatures whose presence brings destructive environmental changes. This supports a campaign about communities living alongside dangerous forces; it does not establish the Bamboo Grove Verge, four mapped crossings or their migration scores. Wizards: Planeswalker’s Guide to Bloomburrow, Part1

The guide’s third part describes otterfolk storm chasing and boat communities, and batfolk nocturnal protection and celestial traditions. Use such published cultural details as inspiration, then label additions: “Our campaign proposes…” The presets’ specific human-to-tanuki, raptor, salamander and elephant assignments, spiritual traits and local histories are fan interpretations. Understand the authored score rules

Tension is round(base tension +pressure × 0.3 −ward bonus), clamped 10–95. Kami, scouts and bramble give bonuses 8, 12 and 15. Settlement is round(pressure × 0.7 +base stability × 0.15); wards do not alter it. Stability adds 4 below pressure 30, subtracts 6 above 80, otherwise adds 0, then clamps 30–98. The pressure label uses different boundaries: Low below 35 and High above 75. These are display and arithmetic conventions, not lore laws.

Changing a preset preserves current pressure and selected ward, then recalculates from that preset’s base scores. It also replaces your card edits. Reset selects Jukai, pressure 55 and Kami wards, producing recalculated values rather than the fresh page’s base display. The animated route is an SVG curve between chosen coordinates; no migration agents, travel times or topology search run.

Treat the card as a design draft

The editable title, type line and rules text are fan card text, not official Oracle text. Expressions such as “non-Valley creature,” “harmonize with a local Kami spirit” and “different animal types” need explicit definitions for your playgroup; the tool does not validate them, resolve triggers, check balance or certify legality. The official rules page is the reference for actual Magic rules. Wizards: Magic rules

Card edits update the preview and exports immediately. Local storage is written when the full page renders after a preset, pressure or ward action, not on each card keystroke. Reload restores saved scenario/card data, but pressure and ward controls revert to their HTML defaults and may disagree with restored scores until recalculation. Export before leaving if edits matter; JSON and Markdown are records, not an importable save or proof of source verification.
