🥊 The 10-Point Must Scoring System
In championship professional boxing, three judges independently award points at the conclusion of every 3-minute round:
- 10-9 Round: The standard score for a round won cleanly on effective aggression, clean punching, and ring generalship without a knockdown.
- 10-8 Round: Awarded when the winner scores a decisive knockdown, or completely dominates the action without a knockdown.
- 10-7 Round: Occurs when a fighter scores two knockdowns in the same round, or inflicts an overwhelming one-sided beating alongside a knockdown.
- 10-10 Round: A completely dead-even round where neither fighter gained an advantage (rarely awarded by modern sanctioning bodies).
⚖️ Sanctioning Body Decision Terminology
At the conclusion of the scheduled distance, the three scorecards determine the official ring result:
- Unanimous Decision (UD): All three judges score the contest in favor of the same fighter.
- Split Decision (SD): Two judges score the bout for Fighter A, while the third judge scores the bout for Fighter B.
- Majority Decision (MD): Two judges score for Fighter A, while the third judge scores the contest an exact draw.
- Split / Majority Draw: When judges disagree or total scores cancel out to equal tallies, resulting in no winner.
