Dabbing with a microfiber cloth frequently forces stains deeper into the carpet backing and pad. As the liquid dries, capillary action carries dissolved pigments back up to the fiber tips—the notorious "reappearing stain" effect. Water Temperature & Fiber Chemistry

In contrast, heavy animal fats and kitchen grease require elevated temperature to melt past their lipid melting threshold, allowing surfactants to emulsify and lift the dirt cleanly.
How much vacuum suction (lift) is required for portable spot cleaners?
Standard home upright vacuums provide high airflow (CFM) for dry debris, but spot extractors prioritize water lift (sealed suction, typically measured in kPa or water lift inches). A rating of 8–15 kPa ensures that injected wash water is lifted back into the dirty water collection tank, reducing residual moisture below 15% and preventing mildew development inside backing foams.
What is the difference between enzymatic cleaner and oxygen bleach?
Enzymatic formulas contain living proteins (proteases, amylases, lipases) that physically digest biological material like pet urine, vomit, and saliva into odorless volatile compounds. Oxygen boosters (sodium percarbonate) release mild hydrogen peroxide bubbles that cleave colored chromophore molecules via oxidation, making them ideal for red wine, tea, and juice pigments.
Can spot cleaners cause fiber damage or fuzzing on wool?
Yes. Delicate fibers like unsealed wool or high-twist Berber can fray or "fuzz" if brushed with stiff rotating bristles or subjected to high alkaline solutions (pH > 8.5). On wool, always use a neutral pH rinse, avoid aggressive scrub passes, and rely primarily on fluid flush and gentle vacuum passes.
