Route Physics & Window Windows
Modern NFL offenses balance route depth with defensive pressure curves. In this simulator, each receiver route stems against zone leverage (Cover 2, 3, or Quarters) or man coverage (Cover 1, Cover 0). Separation evolves dynamically over time. If the QB holds the ball beyond the pocket protection threshold, edge rushers collapse for a sack or pressure-forced throw.
Expected Points Added (EPA) & Leverage
EPA evaluates every snap based on historical down, distance, and field position tables. A 4-yard gain on 3rd & 3 yields high positive EPA (+1.42), whereas a 4-yard checkdown on 3rd & 14 yields negative EPA (-0.84) due to punt likelihood. High-leverage 4th-down decisions dynamically update the drive's total win probability.
Matchup Nuance: Colts vs Commanders
Colts utilize heavy RPO options and vertical seam attacks from 11 personnel to exploit single-high safeties. Conversely, the Commanders defensive scheme features aggressive A-gap blitz packages and disguises, pressuring young passers to make hot reads under 2.4 seconds.
