Pebble & Sweep Mechanics

The Asymmetric Scratch Model: Unlike a flat surface, sprayed ice "pebbles" make curling stones curl in the direction of front edge travel as microscopic scratches guide the granite running band.

Why Sweepers Yell & Polish: Sweeping briefly melts pebble tips, lowering the friction coefficient (μ from 0.016 → 0.011). This lets the stone glide 1.5 to 2.5 meters farther and delays bite to keep the line straight!
