Created by Tom Tango, Leverage Index quantifies how critical a game moment is compared to average (LI = 1.0). An LI above 3.0 represents a game-deciding turning point where a single pitch or misaligned infielder can swing the outcome by over 40% win expectancy.

Defensive Depth Optimization

With runners at 3rd with fewer than 2 outs, managers face the eternal tradeoff: Infield In prevents the go-ahead run at home on routine grounders (+18% chance of out at plate), but inflates the hitter's batting average on balls in play (BABIP) by over 60 points through widened holes.
