Why isn't there an eclipse every month? The Moon's orbital plane is tilted 5.14° relative to Earth's ecliptic. Syzygy (straight-line alignment) only causes an eclipse when the Moon crosses the ecliptic at the orbital nodes during a New or Full Moon. Adjust the Orbital Inclination slider to 0° to observe what would happen without this orbital tilt.
