Millennium-Scale Pacific Feedback Mechanism

Warm equatorial waters slosh eastward across the Pacific, flattening the thermocline and shutting down cold nutrient upwelling off South America. Classical thermodynamic models estimated the absolute human survivability limit at 35°C (95°F) Twb at 100% RH assuming a passive, naked human in complete shade. Recent empirical clinical research (Penn State University, Vecellio et al.) demonstrates that for young, healthy adults performing basic daily activities, the uncompensable heat threshold occurs at approximately 30.6°C Twb at 100% RH (e.g. 38°C at ~60% RH or 40°C at 49% RH).
