March 2026 ASI Excavation: Prior to recent archaeological digs 5 meters below ground level, Elephanta Island's massive 20-step T-shaped stone reservoir remained silted and hidden. Basalt blocks were ferried across open sea to form a precision stepped basin that minimized surface evaporation wave drag while trapping heavy silt.
