The Unified MMA 10-Point Must Scoring System
MMA judges score each round independently on a 10-point scale. The fighter evaluated as having won the round receives 10 points, while their opponent receives 9 points or fewer.
Effective Striking and Grappling (Tier 1 Criteria)
Under unified rules, effective striking and grappling is the primary scoring criteria. Effective striking is judged by the impact and damage of legal strikes landed. Effective grappling is judged by successful takedowns, submission threats, and active positional control.
When is a Round Scored 10-8 or 10-7?
A 10-8 round is awarded when one fighter wins by a wide margin with sustained dominance, significant damage, or multiple knockdowns. A 10-7 round is an overwhelming, near-finish beating that rarely goes unanswered.
Event Pace & Rundown Architecture
Combat sports events run on strict pacing models. Main events feature 5 scheduled 5-minute rounds (25 minutes active combat) with 1-minute inter-round breaks. Standard main-card and preliminary bouts feature 3 five-minute rounds (15 minutes).
Walkout & Commercial Buffer Calibration
Between bouts, production buffers roughly 5 to 7 minutes for fighter walkouts, athlete inspections, corner preparation, and official in-cage announcements.
