Unified Rules of Mixed Martial Arts
Scoring emphasizes effective striking and grappling first. Cumulative impact and damage supersede mere volume or static cage pressure. Octagon control and aggressiveness are secondary tier criteria, utilized only if round striking and grappling are deemed exactly equal.
10-8 & 10-7 Thresholds
A score of 10-8 is awarded when a competitor wins by a large margin with heavy damage, duration of dominance, or multiple near-finishes. A 10-7 round is historically rare and reserved for total one-sided overwhelming dominance.
Decision Typology
Unanimous: All 3 judges favor fighter A.
Split Decision: 2 judges favor fighter A, 1 favors fighter B.
Majority Decision: 2 judges favor fighter A, 1 scores a draw.
