How to Read & Design Offensive Passing Schemes
Klint Kubiak & Wide Zone / Play Action Principles
Modern offenses stress second-level defenders (linebackers and safeties) with run-action flow. When the running back attacks the perimeter on outside zone, linebackers bite forward, creating massive voids behind them for intermediate crossing dig and sail routes.
The 3-Level High-Low Read
In concepts like Flood and Dagger, routes are stacked vertically at 4–6 yards (Flat/Under), 12–15 yards (Sail/Intermediate), and 25+ yards (Clearout Post). A single cornerback or safety cannot defend two vertical levels simultaneously.
Interactive Chalkboard Controls
Click and drag any offensive player or route waypoint to adjust stems and depth. Tap on a receiver while the play is running to fire a pass and test whether defensive leverage allows a contested or clean completion.
