Viability & Constitutional Status

Majority arithmetic & institutional hurdles

Brandmauer (Cordon Sanitaire) Rule
Enforce traditional democratic firewall prohibiting coalitions with far-right AfD
No Governing Majority

Select parties to test whether they reach the absolute majority requirement (50% + 1 seats) or face constitutional vetoes.

Total Assembly Seats 88
Governing Majority (50% + 1) 45 seats
Blocking Minority (1/3 Veto) 30 seats
Current Coalition Seats 0 (0.0%)
Seat Surplus / Deficit -45
External 1/3 Veto Power Active Yes (AfD holds 32 seats)

Why the 1/3 "Blocking Minority" Matters:

In German state parliaments, a party with > 33.3% of seats can unilaterally veto: constitutional amendments, the appointment of state constitutional court judges, dissolution of parliament, and parliamentary investigatory committees. Even if a centrist coalition reaches 45 seats, they cannot pass two-thirds measures without AfD or Linke consent.
