The Red gene ($O$) is sex-linked on the X chromosome. Because male cats are $XY$, they need only one copy ($X^O Y$) to be completely orange. Females ($XX$) require two copies ($X^O X^O$). In typical feral and domestic populations, roughly 80% of all solid orange cats are males!
