The Whole of the Ball Rule (Law 10)
Under IFAB Law 10, a goal is scored only when the entire circumference of the ball has completely passed over the goal line between the posts. Even if 99% of the ball has crossed, a 1mm spherical curvature tangency on the outer edge is officially NO GOAL.
The 11.7mm Benchmark (John Stones 2019)
On January 3, 2019, Man City defender John Stones sprinted at 8.4 m/s and hooked Mohamed Salah's deflection clear with exactly 11.7 millimeters remaining. City went on to win the match 2-1 and claimed the title by 1 single point over Liverpool.
Hawk-Eye 7-Camera Triangulation
Premier League stadiums employ seven synchronized high-speed cameras per goal mouth recording at 500 FPS. Hawk-Eye reconstructs the 3D spherical envelope in real-time with sub-millimeter precision and vibrates the referee's watch within 1 second.
