Why Headphone Firmware Updates Change Sound

Over-ear headphones rely on digital signal processors (DSP) to linearize driver physical nonlinearities, equalize acoustic back-cavity resonances, and adaptively boost low-frequencies when the ear-cup seal is broken by glasses or hair.

Parametric Bi-Quad Filter Calculation

Each band applies a digital biquad peaking filter with second-order coefficients computed from sampling rate $f_s$, center frequency $f_0$, quality factor $Q$, and gain $A = 10^{\frac{G}{40}}$, matching standard audio engineering specifications.

Spatial Audio & HRTF Expansion

Standard stereo audio often sounds trapped between listener ears. By blending frequency-dependent crossfeed (simulating head shadowing) and fractional millisecond delays, the acoustic soundstage opens up into a 3-dimensional bubble.
