1937 — Congress Working Committee (CWC) Calcutta Resolution
October 26–November 1, 1937
Following concerns raised by the Muslim League and consultations with Rabindranath Tagore, the CWC officially recommended singing only the first two non-denominational stanzas of Vande Mataram at national gatherings, setting aside the later deity invocations to protect inter-communal unity.
"The Congress anticipates that there is no valid objection from any quarter to the singing of the first two stanzas... provided that only these two stanzas are sung and no addition is made."
