Discovered by JWST at $z=4-10$, LRDs exhibit extremely compact physical radii ($<100\text{ pc}$) with distinct broad Balmer emission line wings ($V_{\text{FWHM}} > 3,000\text{ km/s}$) and steep red UV continuum slopes. Scientists actively debate whether these are over-massive accreting Supermassive Black Holes (SMBHs) or ultra-dense dust-reddened stellar clusters without active nuclei.
