Glossary
Third-country national
A person who is not a citizen of the country they are in, nor of the country sending them there. In this context: migrants from other nations deported from the US to Liberia.
Deportation
The formal removal of a non-citizen from a country for violating immigration laws. Distinct from voluntary return.
Asylum seeker
A person who has fled their home country and seeks international protection, but whose claim has not yet been decided.
Safe third country
A legal concept where a country deems another nation safe for asylum seekers, allowing transfer there. Contested in international law.
