What each one actually does

01

⌘ + Space — Spotlight

System-wide search for apps, files, and documents. It is also a calculator and converter: type 240*1.08 and get 259.2 instantly, or 85 usd in eur for a live currency conversion — no app needed.

02

⌘ + Shift + 5 — Screenshot Studio

Opens the full capture toolbar: whole screen, a window, or a selection — plus screen recording with a timer and save-location options. For a quick region grab, ⌘⇧4 skips the menu.

03

⌘ + Tab — App Switcher

Hold ⌘ and tap Tab to cycle open apps. Keep holding ⌘ and press Q to quit the highlighted app, or H to hide it — triage every open app without touching the mouse.

04

⌘ + Option + Esc — Force Quit

The Mac equivalent of Ctrl+Alt+Delete. Opens the Force Quit dialog so you can kill a frozen app. Works even when the Dock is unresponsive.

05

⌘ + Shift + . — Show Hidden Files

In Finder, toggles dotfiles like .zshrc and .git visible. Essential for developers; press again to hide them.

06

⌘ + ` — Cycle App Windows

⌘+Tab switches between apps; ⌘+backtick switches between windows of the same app — two Safari windows, two Finder windows, and so on.
