Mountain Sport Endurance & Motivation Profiler

Psychological modeling of pain endurance, grit, and limit-pushing drivers among mountain athletes (trail runners, alpinists, climbers, ski tourers). Built to support the University of Perpignan thesis survey.

Psychobiological Model of Endurance

Pioneered by Samuele Marcora and applied to ultra-endurance mountain disciplines, exercise cessation occurs when perceived effort reaches the maximum potential motivation. High intrinsic drive and cognitive reframing suppress perceived exertion, allowing athletes to continue ascending.

Central Governor & Pain Persistence

Noakes' Central Governor model posits that the brain regulates motor unit recruitment to protect homeostatic limits. Experienced alpinists and trail runners exhibit calibrated sensory attenuation, differentiating nociceptive warning signals from acute tissue damage.

Self-Determination in High-Altitude Sports

Autonomy, competence (mastery of terrain and mountain safety), and relatedness create a stable psychological reservoir. Intrinsic motivation remains the strongest predictor of long-term adherence and post-exhaustion recovery in extreme alpine environments.
