On July 14, 2015, NASA's New Horizons spacecraft passed within high-resolution optical range of Pluto and Charon. The LORRI instrument revealed active nitrogen glaciers on Sputnik Planitia and nitrogen atmospheric haze.

Adjusting flyby geometry dynamically computes camera spatial resolution, signal delay, and solar occultation absorption depth.
