Acoustic Physical Modeling
The sweet potato ocarina behaves as a Helmholtz resonator. Sound begins with turbulent air striking the labium edge, creating a warm fundamental tone with minimal even harmonics. This studio utilizes paired Web Audio triangle and sine oscillators coupled with filtered pink noise to recreate the breathy character of kiln-fired ceramic.
The 5-Button Harmonic Matrix
Unlike modern 12-hole chromatic ocarinas, the N64 game engine mapped five dedicated buttons directly to musical intervals: A (D4, 293.66 Hz), C-Down (F4, 349.23 Hz), C-Right (A4, 440.00 Hz), C-Left (B4, 493.88 Hz), and C-Up (D5, 587.33 Hz). This pentatonic-like arrangement guarantees pleasant modal harmony across all song combinations.
Real-Time Melodic Recognition
As you trigger notes using mouse clicks, touch taps, or keyboard shortcuts (Space/A and Arrows), the studio’s sequence matcher tracks pitch intervals, timing cadence, and completion states. Matching the full phrase triggers an ethereal chime and full accompaniment playback.
