When a ballcarrier like Hawkins breaks through the line of scrimmage, defensive backs (safeties and cornerbacks) take pursuit angles based on anticipated linear speed.
A sudden lateral cutback decelerates the runner momentarily while radically changing the angle of attack. Because defenders carry high forward momentum (inertia), cutting against their pursuit vector forces an over-pursuit miss, creating a wide-open lane to the endzone.

How Pursuit Radii Work
Every defender calculates a predicted intercept point. If the runner crosses within 2.2 yards of a defender without executing a cutback, spin, or stiff-arm, a tackle occurs. Lateral cuts over 4 yards break pursuit locks.
Controls & Touch Support
On keyboards, steer with A / D or Left/Right arrows, press Space for Stiff Arm, and S for Spin. On mobile, tap the dedicated Evasion Pad buttons or drag the steer slider.
Exporting Play Analytics
Completing a run (or being stopped) generates a timestamped play log documenting yardage gained, pursuit avoidance deltas, and evasive move counts ready to export.
