Vandenberg Trajectory Geometry

Launches from Vandenberg Space Force Base (SLC-4E) fly south over the open Pacific Ocean. This corridor allows polar and high-inclination orbits (53° to 97.6° Sun-Synchronous) without overflying populated landmasses, contrasting with Florida's eastward Atlantic corridors.

Staging & Dynamic Pressure

Falcon 9's nine Merlin 1D engines throttle down as the vehicle reaches transonic speeds around T+1:12 to limit aerodynamic structural stress (Max-Q). Following MECO at T+2:30, the cold-gas thrusters and grid fins steer the first stage toward the drone ship while the second stage vacuum engine inserts the satellites.

Multi-Satellite Dispersion Physics

Starlink V2 Mini satellites utilize a tension-rod retention system. Following Second Engine Cutoff (SECO-1), the clamping mechanism releases all satellites simultaneously at small relative delta-Vs (~0.1–0.5 m/s), dispersing them along the orbital plane before onboard argon Hall-effect thrusters raise them to their operational shells.
