What the chip covered
Your chip models direct cellular responses in isolated chambers. It can show you which cell type is stressed by a compound and roughly how viable the culture remains.
What the model missed
A chip with a few cell types cannot reproduce whole-body physiology: metabolite circulation between organs, blood-brain barrier transport, or behavioral readouts. Those require systemic interactions.
Why developers caution
The bipartisan coalition pushing to replace animal research hopes new technology can do the job. But few of the people actually building replacement technologies agree full replacement is possible today — because models like this one still miss systemic endpoints.
