Gesture field guide
A useful pose reads before the details do.
Use the mannequin as a structural reference, then bring observation and anatomy back into the drawing.
Start with motion
Find one continuous line of action.
Before adjusting elbows and knees, look for the curve that travels from the head through the rib cage into the supporting leg.
How do I pose the figure?
Choose the nearest preset, then drag the bright joint dots. Moving a wrist or ankle rotates the connected chain; moving the pelvis translates the entire figure. Use the proportion sliders after the gesture is established.
How should I use onion skin?
Save a strong first gesture as the ghost, turn on onion skin, and create a second variation. Compare the silhouettes and choose the version with clearer balance, weight, and directional flow.
Can I export poses?
Yes. Choose white or transparent background, then export a PNG at twice the visible canvas resolution. Mirror view is included in the export when enabled.
Does this replace photo reference?
No. The mannequin solves structure and composition. Use photo or life reference afterward for anatomy, compression, foreshortening, fabric, hands, and expression.
