What is the difference between Magic # and Tragic #?
A Magic Number belongs to the leader: each win by the leader or loss by the chaser drops it by 1 until the leader clinches. A Tragic (Elimination) Number belongs to the chasing team: when it reaches 0, the chaser cannot possibly catch the leader or playoff seed, even by winning every remaining game.
