Match Play Formulation & Math Model
In standard stroke play, total score over 72 holes decides the champion. In Presidents Cup match play, scoring is hole-by-hole. A birdie beats a par, but a triple-bogey loses the same single point as a bogey. Aggressive styles that produce volatile birdie-or-worse spreads perform markedly better in four-ball, whereas consistent tee-to-green drivers thrive in alternate shot (foursomes).
This simulator computes hole score probability curves parameterized by individual player PGA TOUR strokes-gained metrics (SG: Off-the-Tee, SG: Approach, SG: Around-the-Green, and SG: Putting), blended with Medinah's specific hole length and hazard distribution.
