"This is Radio Kudirat Nigeria, the voice of democracy, human rights, and freedom. We broadcast across the darkness of dictatorship to keep the mandate of June 12 alive. They assassinated Alhaja Kudirat Abiola on June 4th in Lagos, thinking they could bury our voice. Her martyrdom will fuel the liberation of our people..."
Tactical Context: Launched in June 1996 by the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO) and exiled activists including Wole Soyinka, Radio Kudirat was named in honor of Kudirat Abiola, wife of detained elected president Moshood Abiola. General Sani Abacha's regime deployed heavy state jammer arrays in Lagos and Kaduna, but operators routed taped dispatches through clandestine offshore transmitters in Norway and South Africa, bouncing 7.185 MHz signals off the ionosphere directly into millions of Nigerian battery radios.

Chief M.K.O. Abiola wins democratic election; military regime annuls results, imposing draconian press and broadcast censorship across Nigeria.
June 4, 1996
Pro-democracy leader Kudirat Abiola is assassinated in Lagos by state hitmen while advocating for her imprisoned husband and civilian rule.

Inaugural clandestine broadcast of Radio Kudirat airs on shortwave 41-meter band. Cassette recordings are duplicated underground in Lagos markets.
1997 - 1998
Abacha's military intelligence initiates electronic warfare counter-measures, sweeping white noise and sirens across 7.185 MHz. Kudirat responds with frequency hopping to 9.540 MHz.
May 1999
Following Abacha's death and democratic restoration, Radio Kudirat concludes operations having preserved the historical record of civil defiance.
