How Campaign Target Analysis Works
Political campaigns systematically direct audience focus toward specific opponents, institutions, or predecessors. As evidenced in Reuters election coverage, an incumbent or contender may invoke an opponent's name hundreds of times across dozens of rallies to anchor blame, frame economic conditions, or consolidate party loyalty.
Methodology & Framing Lexicon
This analyzer tokenizes sentences and evaluates context windows of ±15 words around each entity mention:
- Adversarial / Attack Framing: Identified by proximity to negative critique terms (e.g., corrupt, failed, disastrous, weak, destroyed, radical, crooked).
- Endorsement / Praise Framing: Identified by supportive context (e.g., patriot, strong, great leader, winner, endorsed).
- Neutral / Factual Reference: Official institutional references, dates, bill citations, and votes without charged epithets.
Practical Applications
- Journalistic Fact-Checking: Confirm candidate focus shifts, such as tracking when a campaign pivots rhetoric from a current rival back to a previous administration.
- Debate Prep & Opposition Research: Quantify vulnerability areas and predict attack targets before primary or general debates.
- Media Literacy & Speech Auditing: Evaluate speeches to discover whether policy proposals outweigh personal grievance targeting.
