Engadget Reporting: Roku's Hidden Menus

As covered in Engadget's tech teardowns, Roku OS contains several legacy and engineer diagnostics hidden behind physical remote control sequences. These screens grant power users access to controls that are deliberately excluded from regular Settings menus.

The most consequential of these is the Secret Advertising Menu, which allows hardware owners to reset their Roku ID for Advertising (RIDA) and inspect raw tracking telemetry emitted by apps and ad beacons.

RIDA, LAT & Ad Preference Mechanics

Limit Ad Tracking (LAT): Instructs streaming channels and Roku services not to build cross-app behavioral profiles.
RIDA Cycle: Resets your device advertising GUID to zeroes or a freshly minted hash, decoupling historic viewing patterns from future ad bids.
Targeted Ad Opt-Out: Blocks home-screen interactive ad tiles and background Nielsen viewer-measurement analytics.
