What does 5 ATM mean?
It survives 50 meters of static water pressure in a lab. Real life adds motion pressure, so: swimming and showers are fine, diving and high-speed water sports are not.

A $59.99 band with no screen still packs a dedicated ECG chip, a body-temperature thermistor, a MEMS accelerometer, Bluetooth 5.3 and 5 ATM water resistance. Here is what all of that actually means.
Drag to rotate the layer stack. Tap a layer label to jump to how that part works.
3D view unavailable on this device. From top to bottom the band stacks: ECG electrodes, NTC thermistor pad, MEMS accelerometer, battery, and magnetic charge pins.
A single-lead ECG measures the tiny voltage your heart produces each beat, through two metal electrodes touching your skin. Optical PPG sensors (the green LEDs on most watches) only watch blood volume changes — an ECG sees the actual electrical PQRST waveform, which is why it can hint at rhythm issues PPG cannot.
NTC means Negative Temperature Coefficient: as your skin gets warmer, the sensor's resistance drops in a very predictable curve. Because it must physically touch you, a contact thermistor tracks body temperature far better than an air sensor. Drag the handle to see resistance change.
A microscopic silicon mass on springs shifts when the band tilts or shakes; capacitors measure that shift on three axes. Drag the chip to tilt it and watch X/Y/Z respond. Step counting is just peak detection on the combined signal.
3D chip unavailable. Imagine tilting the band: gravity redistributes across the X, Y and Z axes, and the bars below would follow.
The three specs shoppers ask about most, answered plainly.

Lower power draw for longer battery life, plus better coexistence with Wi-Fi and other devices so syncing stays stable in crowded radio environments.
Two spring pins snap onto magnets — no fragile port to let water in, which is part of how the band keeps its 5 ATM rating. The battery sits under the sensor stack.
