Storyboards · Creative decisions

Make the next frame
easier to decide.

“Simple” depends on the job: generate images, organize a script, revise a scene, or communicate the plan.

Start with the missing part.

Boords documents a guided script-to-board path with optional cast references and frame-image generation. StoryboardHero describes integrated script and image generation. Storyboarder.ai documents detailed shot revision and reference workflows. Storyflow combines editable canvas planning with AI image generation explicitly listed on its current Pro and Max plans.

These capabilities suggest different starting points; they do not establish the fastest or easiest product for your team. Bring the same small scene to a trial, change one shot, and inspect the actual handoff. Structure, generated imagery and reliable visual continuity are separate things to review—even when a product offers all the relevant controls.

What do you want
AI to help with?

Official documentation checked October 5, 2026. Recommendations are workflow inferences, not vendor tests, scores or measured generation results.

Boords

Script into a structured board.

Current creation documentation offers script import, writing with AI and a manual blank board. The import flow produces editable frame text and image prompts; optional cast setup supplies references for later generated images.

Try it first when: you have a scene or script and want an explicit guided starting process. References are a documented feature, not a guarantee that every output stays consistent.

Verify: exact import limits and plan access in your account. The retrieved page contains differing upload/length statements between its main instructions and FAQ, so this guide does not repeat a single asserted limit.

Current creation documentation

StoryboardHero

Script and imagery together.

Its official feature page describes structured scripts, scene-image generation, editing or regeneration, branded PDF exports and share links for comments. It also describes optional human sketching support.

Try it first when: you want one product to take a brief through script and visual concept development.

Verify: the actual plan, credits, artist-service terms and exported file. This guide does not adopt the vendor’s speed, productivity or image-consistency claims as measured facts.

Storyboarder.ai

Iterate at the shot level.

Its April 2026 help article describes reordering shots, style regeneration, shot-specific retry and iteration, direct image upload, image-to-image and sketch-to-image routes, character/location/object references, and PDF, image-set or animatic exports.

Try it first when: the task is refining individual shots rather than only creating an initial board.

Verify: one specific correction and its export. A documented iteration control is not proof that it preserves every intended detail or achieves production-ready continuity.

Storyflow

Canvas context and plan-specific imagery.

The storyboard page documents ordered frames, descriptions, framing, notes, imported references, read-only sharing and PDF exports. Its FAQ separates structural drafting from drawings; that distinction does not mean the product lacks image generation. Current pricing explicitly includes AI image generation directly inside boards on Pro and Max.

Try it first when: you want the sequence, references and wider project on a shared canvas, with paid image generation available on the documented plans.

Verify: the actual plan and outputs. Current pricing distinguishes paid standalone access, an upcoming standalone Free plan and free invited collaboration. Image support does not establish continuity, accuracy or permission for any particular result.

Separate the image
from the instruction.

A plausible frame can still show the wrong action, position or point of view. Decide the camera and subject relationship before treating the picture as a plan.

Keep the action explicit

Write the action and unresolved questions in human terms. The blocking tool below positions geometric stand-ins; it does not infer a script or judge a performance.

Review consistency directly

Inspect character appearance, orientation, props and geography across actual frames. A product feature or this geometric scene does not prove visual continuity.

Test the handoff

Export a representative sequence and inspect it with the recipient. A share link, PDF, image set and animatic serve different review needs.

Block the camera.
Keep the decision.

A real Three.js 0.170.0 perspective camera renders two geometric stand-ins and a cube. Change camera, target and subject positions, then save the frames you want to discuss.

Initializing the local scene…

Red and blue stand-ins are schematic geometry, not AI-generated people. Coordinates are illustrative world units, not surveyed meters. Vertical field of view is in degrees; this is not a calibrated lens simulator.

Camera and subject geometry

The view updates from valid geometry. Camera and target must be distinct. Saving creates a snapshot; later control changes do not silently alter saved shots. Rendering requires WebGL. If it is unavailable, the article and JSON/Markdown source handoffs remain readable; no fake rendered fallback is supplied.

Your saved sequence

JSON preserves numeric source geometry, titles and full notes. Restore validates all source values before committing, then renders them again; cached image fields are ignored. Markdown includes every shot’s geometry and full notes. The frame-board PNG contains all ordered renders and full shot titles; long action notes stay in JSON/Markdown. This tool neither generates AI imagery nor uploads project text. Unrelated analytics are outside this statement’s scope. Save JSON before leaving; there is no autosave.

Use AI for a first pass.
Keep the review yours.

Choose by the stage you need help with, then inspect the generated text, images and exported sequence. A plausible draft is a starting point for decisions.

Which tool is the simplest?

There is no measured universal winner here. Guided script import, integrated image generation, shot revision and canvas planning are different tasks. Test your representative scene and recipient workflow.

Does Storyflow support AI image generation?

Its current pricing page explicitly lists in-board AI image generation on Pro and Max. The storyboard page’s distinction between drafting structure and drawings should not be read as an absence of image capability. Check current plan access and inspect actual results.

Does this desk generate images with AI?

No. Three.js projects real geometry through a perspective camera. It helps explore camera and subject relationships without claiming inference or finished storyboard art.

Can the scene check screen direction or continuity?

You can inspect positions and viewpoints yourself, but it does not label continuity as correct or wrong. It has no script semantics, actor identities or editorial rules.

Why is a saved frame different from the current controls?

Each saved shot is a deliberate snapshot. Load it to inspect its geometry. Change the controls and save a new shot to explore a variant.

Implementation: Three.js documentation, MIT. Technical sources substantiate rendering implementation, not commercial AI performance.
