Smart lighting products like the new Aqara Smart Floor Lamp, Outdoor Fixture, and Smart LED Strip serve as permanent mains-powered fixtures. Unlike battery-powered sensors that go to sleep, mains-powered smart lights function as continuous RF repeaters and routers.
By equipping these luminaires with dual-protocol Zigbee 3.0 and Thread (802.15.4) capability, users gain the flexibility to run legacy Zigbee coordinators (such as Aqara Hub M2/E1) or bind directly into native IP-based Matter over Thread ecosystems (Apple Home, Google Home, SmartThings, and Home Assistant) via the Aqara Hub M3 Thread Border Router.
Both Zigbee and Thread operate in the globally unlicensed 2.4 GHz ISM band. The simulator models log-distance path loss with Friis transmission formulas plus discrete obstacle degradation:
