Domestic Airport Transit for Noncitizens

Domestic TSA checkpoints require acceptable identification (e.g., valid foreign passport, REAL ID driver's license, or Employment Authorization Card). CBP and ICE conduct interior transit operations, especially within the 100-mile statutory border jurisdiction or international arrival terminals. Always carry unexpired passport, I-94 printout, and an endorsed Form I-20.

Medical Reduced Course Load (8 CFR 214.2)

When a student-athlete suffers a severe injury like a torn ACL or fracture, athletic participation or full-time academic course loads may be disrupted. A Designated School Official (DSO) must authorize a Medical Reduced Course Load in SEVIS based on a licensed medical doctor's letter to protect nonimmigrant legal status from automated termination.

Immediate Protocol in Case of Detention

If stopped at an airport: 1) State your name and provide your Form I-20 and valid passport; 2) Immediately state: "I request that my university's DSO and my lawyer be contacted"; 3) Inform officers immediately in writing of any active medical conditions requiring prescription medication or rehabilitation braces.
