Stalking & Electronic Surveillance Statutes
Placing an unauthorized GPS tracker, AirTag, or hidden camera on another person's property or in a private residence violates state and federal laws:
- Federal Stalking Statute (18 U.S.C. § 2261A): Prohibits electronic surveillance and tracking causing substantial emotional distress or reasonable fear of death/injury.
- Wisconsin GPS Tracking Law (Wis. Stat. § 940.315): Specifically classifies placing a global positioning device on a vehicle without owner consent as a Class A misdemeanor.
- Wiretap & Hidden Camera Laws (18 U.S.C. § 2511): Unlawful audio recording or non-consensual visual surveillance in areas with reasonable expectation of privacy carries severe felony penalties.
