T20 Modern Field Restriction Rules

In modern Twenty20 International (T20I) cricket under ICC regulations:

  • Powerplay (Overs 1-6): Maximum 2 fielders are permitted outside the 30-yard fielding circle. Batters exploit gaps over infielders.
  • Non-Powerplay (Overs 7-20): Maximum 5 fielders can be posted on the boundary rope outside the 30-yard ring.
  • Defensive Matchups: Off-spinners like Washington Sundar bowl tight lines into right-handers, while middle-order anchors like Shreyas Iyer target the deep extra-cover to mid-wicket pocket.

Simulation Physics & Interception Logic

Every delivery calculates realistic ball flight and fielding reaction vectors:

  • Pitch Dynamics: Yorker, good length, and bouncer trajectories interact with bat face angles, timing speed, and elevation.
  • Fielder Sprint Vectors: Fielders possess realistic reaction delays (0.28s) and sprint acceleration (~7.2 m/s). If a lofted stroke lands near a fielder before touching turf, a catch is taken.
  • Grounded Deceleration: Bound strokes slow as they travel across the outfield. If cut off prior to reaching the 70m rope, running speed governs 1, 2, or 3 runs.
