Doubles Serve Geometry: Why Friendly Fire Happens
In modern doubles tactics (Australian & I-Formation), the net partner crouches directly over the center service "T" to poach the receiver's return. However, a flat or sliced serve down the "T" leaves a margin of error under 3.0 degrees. Under match-point adrenaline, tension causes late wrist release and shot dispersion cones to widen, turning a fraction-of-a-second miscue into direct friendly fire into the partner's back or head.
