The Physics of a Three-Wide Stock Car Pass

1. The Leading Slipstream Bubble

Two side-by-side leading cars punch a massive turbulent wake behind them. A trailing car nestled in this low-pressure bubble experiences up to a 35% reduction in aerodynamic drag ($C_d$), creating an engine RPM surge and massive closing velocity.

2. The Side-Draft Air Deflector

When the chasing car draws alongside another stock car's rear quarter-panel, air spilling off the trailing car's nose strikes the rival's rear spoiler. This increases turbulent drag on the competitor while momentarily stalling their forward momentum.

3. Split-Second Middle Squeeze
