Staying Inside & Hinging the Barrel
Rumfield stresses not casting hands away from the body. On an inside pitch, the back elbow slots cleanly into the rib cage, keeping the barrel connected through the rotation rather than disconnecting early.
Tee Depth Relative to the Lead Hip
A classic tee trap is putting every pitch in the same center spot. TJ's routine sets inside pitches 3-4 inches out in front of the stride foot, while outside pitches are allowed to travel deeper into the zone.
Consistent Palm-Up, Palm-Down at Contact
At the instant of impact, the lead hand is palm-down, trail hand palm-up. Rolling over wrists early produces weak topspin grounders; locking this position yields crisp backspin line drives to the gaps.
Ground Force & Lower-Half Retention
Tee work isolates the upper half only if the feet are sloppy. Rumfield anchors the rear hip hinge, ensuring momentum translates upward through core torque before the barrel whips through contact.
