College uprights are 18 feet, 6 inches wide, yet NCAA hash marks are spaced 40 feet apart (compared to the NFL’s narrow 18 ft 6 in marks that align identically with the posts).

Kicking from the NCAA left hash puts the ball 10.75 feet outside the left goalpost before kick launch! A 40-yard attempt creates an acute 5.1° aiming angle.
Physics Trajectory & Aerodynamic Model
This simulator evaluates a standard 3D projectile model incorporating:
- Initial Velocity: $v_0 = 50\text{--}85\text{ mph}$ ($22\text{--}38\text{ m/s}$) launch speed.
- Aerodynamic Drag ($C_d \approx 0.08$): Non-linear deceleration over a 40–50 yard flight corridor.
- Crosswind Lateral Drift: Wind velocity $w_x$ acts continuously against the oblong surface area, causing severe lateral deflections on longer attempts.
- Upright Collision Geometry: Detects inside/outside post hits, crossbar bounces, and vertical clearance margin.
