Broadcast Pacing Benchmarks

Short-form audio news (such as daily 3-to-5 minute business roundups) requires disciplined pacing and strict discipline with word counts:

  • 150–165 WPM: Standard newsreader rate. Crisp articulation while maintaining urgency.
  • Soundbites (Actuality): Keep tape between 10–22 seconds. Longer quotes disrupt fast flow.
  • Story Budgets: Lead story gets 60–75s. Secondary stories 30–45s. Flash briefs 15–20s.
  • Out-cues: Always leave 15–20 seconds for disclaimer, branding, and audio signoff.

Production Workflow FAQ

How is reading time computed?

Duration is calculated as (word count / WPM) * 60 seconds + Soundbite Duration. As you edit words or adjust anchor cadence, timing metrics update immediately.

How does the teleprompter rehearsal work?

Selecting "Rehearse Rundown" starts an audible speech synthesis clock (if supported) and automatically steps through each segment in real time so you can rehearse breathing, emphasis, and live delivery.

Can I import this cue sheet into my DAW or podcast host?

Yes. The exported cue sheet contains timestamped chapters, soundbite in/out markers, total segment runtimes, and exact word counts formatted for Adobe Audition, Reaper, Descript, or RSS podcast chapter markers.
